About Stone & Glass
Stone & Glass is a volunteer project to record every memorial and memorial window in St Michael's Church, Malton. Each one has been photographed and its inscription transcribed. Volunteers are now researching the people behind them, using parish registers, wills, census returns and old newspapers.
So far, 10 of the 51 memorials have a full story. More will be added as the research goes on.
Using this guide in church
Each memorial has a number on the map. If there is a QR code beside a memorial, scan it with your phone camera to open its page. The numbers follow a walk round the church: start at the west door and go clockwise along the south aisle, through the Lady Chapel and chancel, and back along the north aisle.
On a memorial page, the bar at the bottom of the screen takes you to the next stop on the walk.
Pages you have opened are kept on your phone, so they still work if the signal in church is poor. To make the text bigger or the screen darker, use the Aa button at the top. See Accessibility for more.
Can you help?

The plan
The map is simplified from the architects' floor plan (Ferrey & Mennim / Donald Insall Associates, 2025) and a hand-drawn memorial map made by the project team.
