Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use this guide, in the church or at home. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What you can do
- Make the text bigger, or switch to dark colours, with the Aa button at the top of every page. Your phone or browser zoom also works.
- Press Listen on any memorial page to hear it read aloud. The part being read is highlighted.
- Use every page with a keyboard or a screen reader. The map has a full list of memorials beside it, in walking order.
- Turn off animation in your phone's settings ("reduce motion") and this guide will stop moving too.
- Use the guide without signal: pages you have opened are kept on your phone.
What we know is not perfect yet
- The church plan is a picture. If you cannot see it, use the "Walk round" list on the same page, which has the same memorials in the same order.
- Some inscriptions use old spellings, Latin or worn lettering. We copy them as they are carved, and give a translation where we have one.
- The Listen voice comes from your own phone or computer, so it sounds different on each device.
- Some memorials do not have a photograph yet.
In the church
If you need help with access in the church, please ask a steward or the church office.
Tell us about a problem
If something in this guide is hard to use, please tell the church office or the Ryedale Family History Group. We will try to fix it.
How we checked
We tested the guide with automated checks (axe), with a keyboard only, at large text sizes, in light and dark colours, and on small phone screens. This statement was written on 13 October 2026.
